How do we make our employees happy? This is one of the most difficult questions to answer as a business. Let's start with some basics to help frame this discussion:

  • Happiness is an emotion, which is temporary.
  • Joy, peace, and purpose are typically thought of as deeper states that tend to last longer.
  • Joyful, peaceful, and purposeful employees tend to bring the best out of others, and elevate our businesses to a higher level.

This leads us to the better question: how do we create joyful, peaceful, and purposeful employees?

This leads us to the better question: how do we create joyful, peaceful, and purposeful employees?

Finding inner joy centers around positive wellbeing. Gratitude, optimism, and practicing positive daily rituals goes a long way to achieving inner joy. As a business leader, it is important to build these elements that spark joy into our daily habits as a company. For example, we have seen great results when teams lead meetings by thanking each other for positive ways each person has impacted the business that week.

A great way to think about how to foster peace is thinking through the opposite - what causes aggressive behavior in your organization? Typically, employees become defensive when they are being blamed for something outside their control, or when their past mistakes are often brought up. Trusting employees to grow and encouraging a sense of care and security over fear creates peaceful environments that last.

Speaking of growth, a great way to encourage employees to pursue purpose in your organization is by fostering a growth mindset in your company culture. Without the ability to grow, employees feel limited in their purpose, and will often choose to leave for better opportunities. A growth plan for each employee can be a really effective tool to drive employees to excel and find their purpose within your organization.

Here's a quick summary list of what we discussed to be effective to create joyful, peaceful, and purposeful employees:

  • Culture of gratitude
  • Positive daily rituals
  • Trust
  • Care and security over fear
  • Growth mindset

We at ClubHealth think intentionally about how to include these same elements organically through our platform. That is why you see the themes of autonomy, joy, growth, and purpose built into your wellness journey through ClubHealth.
